Love Me Not

Problem

Domestic violence exists at an overwhelming rate, with 1 in 4 women experiencing abuse in their lifetime. On top of this, our organizations created to help victims are extremely underfunded. In Watauga County, Oasis (the local shelter) provides many useful services to survivors. However, Oasis is one of the many organizations stretched thin.

Solution

As a senior project with my classmate, we decided to have a Valentine's day card sale. We acquired a student research grant for our project. The illustrations we chose we chose were bright and colorful. conveying themes of love for another or self-love. We set up a booth in downtown Boone and sold cards for two weekends in a row. By the end of our sale, we made $660 in donations. Our project was later published in the Deans Newsletter at Appalachian State University.
